OpenHerd is committed to user privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights users have.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when users submit posts:

  • Post content: The text entered by the user.
  • Approximate location: A fuzzed estimate of the user's location, accurate to no better than ±2 kilometers. This location is not precise and is not tied to identifying information.

We do not collect or store:

  • IP addresses
  • Device identifiers
  • Names, emails, or phone numbers
  • Cookies or persistent session data

2. Use of Data

The information we collect is used solely for:

  • Displaying posts to other users based on approximate region
  • Enabling location-based filtering or organization of content

Post content and approximate locations may be made publicly available through the application or other channels. By posting, users consent to their content being public and redistributed.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell user data. However, because posts are public and anonymous, the content (including fuzzed location) may be shared with third parties, including but not limited to:

  • Researchers
  • Developers
  • Journalists
  • The general public

We are unable to associate any post with a specific individual, and we do not attempt to do so.

4. Data Retention

Post data may be retained for operational or archival purposes. We may remove content at our discretion, or in response to legal takedown requests, but we may not be able to locate or remove all instances.

Due to the anonymous nature of the application, we are generally unable to comply with requests to identify users. The only data we may have, if retained, is the post content and fuzzed location. We do not maintain any logs that could identify users.

6. Children's Privacy

This service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from individuals under this age.

7. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. When changes are made, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
