Data Requests
OpenHerd is designed with privacy in mind.
We do not log IP addresses, device IDs, user accounts, or exact locations. Posts are anonymous and ephemeral. We don’t know who wrote what, and we like it that way.
That said:
- If authorities ask us for data, there's not much we can give.
- The most we might have is a fuzzed location estimate (e.g., a general area like "near Downtown").
- That's only possible if the message packet is still in memory, which doesn't last long.
- We don't have names, emails, phone numbers, or identifying metadata.
We don't sell or share any data. We don’t use tracking cookies. We don't want your data, and we built this so we don't have it. Posts last in the network for around 14 days as per the specification, but some node operators may keep it longer.
